FUTURES returns for its second enlarged edition

A project of high relevance and potential

We are pleased to announce Eurokleis is joining the second edition of FUTURES as innovation manager responsible for the impact assessment and optimization of the emerging artists careers’ growth.

The European Commission has selected FUTURES as a beneficiary of the new Creative Europe Programme to receive a grant of 2.1 million euros.

The European Commission recognizes the value of FUTURES as a project of high relevance., leading to its decision to continue supporting it as the only contemporary photography platform for the next three years. Taken from the summary of their evaluation report:

Overall, this is a project of high relevance and potential as it aims to promote and boost a traditionally under-represented and less visible medium. Moreover, it proposes and resources active involvement of artists in the platform while fostering the professionalisation of their careers.

We are honoured that FUTURES has qualified again for support from the Creative Europe Programme of the European Commission. With this decision, we are encouraged to expand our activities and grow the platform in the coming years.

Menno Liauw
Founder and Director of FUTURES.

“During our collaboration with creative industries, we faced a huge demand to guide and support artists in their professional growth. We are thankful to the European Commission that acknowledged Futures effort in pursuing that goal and giving us a chance to continue our endeavor for the next 3 years”

Iana Dulskaia Innovation Manager of Eurokleis.

FUTURES has grown from 13 to 19 members, covering the full scope of the European contemporary photography landscape.
In total, the platform now supports around 350 artists. This number will grow to at least 550 artists in the next two years.
In the next three years the activities will further expand its activities in Europe, including travelling exhibitions, symposia, and festivals in more than ten different European countries. The matchmaking between artists and experts will be further optimized and several collaborations will be initiated, including with Magnum Photography.
FUTURES expects to move into its new location in Amsterdam in the autumn. This will function as a presentation space, and office and will house a residency, where different artists live and work on a temporary basis.

      Vision/Mission

FUTURES is a Europe-based photography platform bringing together the global photography community to support and nurture the professional development of emerging artists across the world. Since 2017, it aims to add long term value in empowering early and mid-career photographers – launching initiatives to promote their work and granting them access to an unprecedented network of professionals, markets and audiences. FUTURES seeks to encourage new and adventurous ways of enhancing the vital relationship between artists and the industry by creating an ecosystem that allows and stimulates cross-pollination, whilst simultaneously becoming the go-to source for emerging photography worldwide. FUTURES works as a growing international network of influential organisations operating in the field of photography, bringing together a wealth of resources, expertise and talent programmes to pool from. Each year, they nominate a group of rising photography talents to join the platform and co-host a series of events to increase their capacity, mobility and visibility. Synchronously, the platform aims to reveal new and exciting photographic approaches, by celebrating a diversity of stories, encouraging upcoming artists to present their most challenging work, and providing insights into their world and most recent projects.
