Eurokleis has developed different skills within the technology e-Science context. This is a key element of success of Eurokleis' research, which give a high value to the diffusion of research results and for the transfer of technology activities on the market. Eurokleis relies particular attention on economic, financial and organisational evolution of technology.

The main areas of study:

  • analysis of financial trends
  • analysis of European companies operating in the cultural sector
  • assessment of economic, social, environmental and technological infrastructures
  • analysis of sustainability of the European Cloud Computing research
  • cost-benefit analysis and market research
  • analysis of the legal barriers of IT infrastructures

The recent massive growth of online media and the rise of user-generated content (i.e. Blogs, Twitter, Facebook) requires a high ability to interpret written information in different languages, and in an efficient and convenient time. From the scientific point of view, new media pose different challenges due to the type of conversation that triggerconversational, quick and short. Moreoverthese conversations generate a deep-rooted stream of events within the context. Consequently, the pre-existing technological languages are no longer adequate because they are not precise, scalable and portable.

The aim of the project is to develop an innovative and open-source methodology to allow the synthesis in real time (summarisation) of multilingual information's flows generated by the new media.

Eurokleis is participating in the E! LEILAS project"Language-based Entity Identification for Location Aware Services"applied research to the identification and normalisation of geographic entities. The project will develop a technology through which geographical entities (city, address ...in the web documents will be automatically recognised and assigned through their spatial coordinates.

E! Leilas will develop algorithms which will note down any reference to places, addresses, points of interest with its spatial coordinates. The results of this research activity will be integrated into a set of services/portals leading users through a web browsing experience enhanced by a spatial location.

Eurokleis has successfully participated in the SEQUOIA study, commissioned by DG Information Society of the European Commission, in order to develop a socio-economic self-assesment methodology to evaluate the potentiality of 25 research projects.

With reference to the objectives set by the European Union within the Lisbon strategy, the future of the Internet will become increasingly an essential part of future European ICT infrastructure and will be an important vehicle for promoting the internationalisation of markets and the development of productivity and employment in Europe.

In 2010, Eurokleis has participated in the ERINA+ research project, commissioned by DG Information Society of the European Commission, in order to optimise a methodology for the socio-economic self-assessment of European e-Infrastructure projects, already tested by the previous Erina project.

The Erina+  methodology was created from the issues detected by the ERINA project, in order to eliminate the limitations encountered and to increase the impact of e-Infrastructures for research. The methodology has been applied to various e-Infrastructures projects, to detect the socio-economic potential benefits.

The study, commissioned by the Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA) of the European Commission, was aimed to develop an extensive analysis of the activities and of the companies' needs operating in Europe within the cultural and creative sectors. The study will analyse the "environmental" factors, in particular the regulatory aspects, which can influence the development of these businesses, as well as access to finance, and Research & Development.

The companies of the cultural and creative sector have gained first-rate in recent years. At the same time, however, companies must be able to take advantage of growing opportunities in the European Union's internal market and to adapt their business activities to a rapidly changing environmentcharacterized by a strong globalization and technological revolution (digital shift). These developments require new skills and business models within the industry sector.
